Quad – Series 71 i.e., 4-71 Diesel Engine
The above referenced Detroit Diesel Series 71 is a two-stroke cycle Diesel engine series, available in inline configurations having 04 Cylinders and a Displacement of 4.7L having a single Cylinder Head. The 71 in the model series designation refers to the displacement per cylinder in cubic inches.
This 71 series engine utilizes uniflow scavenging where a roots type blower is used for the purpose and unit fuel injection driven by the same camshaft which opens the exhaust valves i.e., the only vents of this 2 Cycle Engine.
