The Detroit Diesel Series 92, 6V92T is a two-stroke cycle, V-block diesel engine, produced with 06 cylinders.
The 92 series was introduced in 1974. It was a rebored version of its then-popular sister series (retaining the 5" piston stroke), the Series 71. Both the 71 and 92 series engines were popularly used in on-highway vehicle applications.
The following Type Label data is usually found on the Option Label of this Detroit Diesel Engine. This Option Label can be found on the Rocker Cover. My latest assignment is the overhauling of an unfortunate, poorly managed DEUTZ, 04 cylinder, water cooled engine coupled to a new COMPAIR C115-12 portable air compressor. This engine was in its infancy and had not yet completed initial 1000 hours of operation when a group of some pseudo specialist mechanics knocked it with all their comprehension of fuel injection systems rendering it unusable for the rest of the life of this fine-looking portable air compressor by damaging its timing gears and associated cam shaft.
The durability of air cooled DEUTZ engines has always fascinated me.
